Education and Safety

At Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc., our number one priority is to ensure the safety of our employees, contractors and the general public.

Zeroquest Sustainability Award 2013We are very proud that in 2013, our employees received the highest level of recognition a company can achieve in Infrastructure Health and Safety Association's ZeroQuest program: the ZeroQuest Sustainability Award. The award recognizes our commitment to safety excellence as well as as our efforts to sustain and continuously improve our safety performance, health and safety management systems and safety culture.

In addition to this award Roy Burch, our Manager of Loss Prevention and Environmental Compliance, received the Electrical Safety Authority's Worker Safety Award in 2013 for his ongoing efforts to improve electrical safety training and education for first responders as well as outreach in the community and at industry events.Electrical Safety Authority Safety Awards Logo

These achievements are testaments to the hard work and constant diligence of employees to follow safety procedures and work safely every day.

Behind the scenes, the company has an effective safety management system in place that consists of four components:

  1. Workplace safety inspections and site visits
  2. A Loss Prevention Program focused on analyzing root causes
  3. Material and work standards
  4. Proficiency training for trades workers and upgrading for professional staff

Our safety efforts are not limited to our own employees. We also sponsor electrical safety programs for school children to teach them about the dangers of electricity.
