Call Ontario One Call Before You Dig!
If you are planning to dig, drill, blast, auger or drive stakes (including fence post spikes) into the ground, it is essential that you call Ontario One Call before you dig to arrange a free underground cable locate. There are as many electrical hazards underground as there are above, and the information you get from Ontario One Call can prevent not only costly repairs due to accidental cable dig-ins but it may also save your life. Underground excavation accounts for more than 20 per cent of power line contacts.
Arranging to have underground utilities located before you dig is also the law; reference the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act Construction Projects section 228.
Ontario One Call notifies all its members who may have underground facilities near or at the proposed dig. They'll arrange for free field locates, where appropriate. Please call at least five working days prior to digging to schedule this service.
During the busy spring season additional notice may be required.
Never assume you know the location or depth of a cable.
