AMO Association of Municipalities of Ontario
APPrO Association of Power Producers of Ontario - APPrO is a trade and professional body representing commercial electricity generators in Ontario, and the largest organization of its type in Canada. APPrO was established in 1986 as the Independent Power Producers' Society of Ontario (IPPSO) and changed its name to APPrO in 2003.
ARCAffiliate Relationship Code sets out the standards and conditions for the interaction between electricity distributors or transmitters and their respective affiliated companies. The principal objectives of the Code are to enhance the development of a competitive market while saving ratepayers harmless from the actions of electricity transmitters and distributors with respect to dealings with their affiliates. Guelph Hydro Inc. has two affiliate companies: Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. and Envida Community Energy Inc.
BiogasBiogas typically refers to a gas produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas originates from biogenic material and is a type of biofuel. Biogas is produced by anaerobic digestion or fermentation of biodegradable materials such as biomass, manure, sewage, municipal waste, green waste, plant material and energy crops. This type of biogas comprises primarily methane and carbon dioxide.
BiomassBiomass is a renewable energy source, comprised of biological material from living, or recently living organisms, such as wood, waste, (hydrogen) gas, and alcohol fuels. Biomass is commonly plant matter grown to generate electricity or produce heat.
BTUBritish Thermal Unit is a traditional unit of energy. It is approximately the amount of energy needed to heat one pound of water from 390F (3.90C) to 400F (4.40C)
CDM Conservation and Demand Management - The Government of Ontario has adopted a broad definition of CDM, which is considered to include the following categories of activities: conservation behaviour, energy efficiency, demand management, fuel switching, and distributed generation.
CCGTCombined Cycle Gas Turbine-In a combined cycle power plant (CCPP), or combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, a gas turbine generator generates electricity and the waste heat is used to make steam to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine; this last step enhances the efficiency of electricity generation.

CEPCommunity Energy Plan - In April 2007, Guelph City Council unanimously endorsed the vision, goals and general directions of a 25-year Community Energy Plan (CEP) that will put Guelph on the cutting edge for North America. Under the Plan's challenging but realistic targets, Guelph could use less energy in 25 years than it does today - even with expected residential growth from the current 118,000 to 175,000 people - and cut its annual greenhouse emissions by nine tonnes per person. Now known as the Community Energy Initiative.
CHPCombined Heat and Power (or cogeneration) is the use of a heat engine or a power station to simultaneously generate electricity and useful thermal energy.
CHPSOPCombined Heat and Power Standard Offer Program - Ontario Power Authority has developed the Combined Heat and Power Standard Offer Program (CHPSOP) to support efficient use of natural gas-fired electricity generating facilities that use CHP technology. The goal of CHPSOP is to facilitate increased development of CHP facilities to a maximum capacity of 20 MW, connected to a Distribution System, and in an area where such generation can be effectively accommodated.

Cogeneration (Cogen) or CHPA Cogeneration plant or Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant usesone source of energy to generate two forms of energy. For example, natural gas can fuel a gas turbine-generator set that produces electricity. Waste heat is captured and used for heating purposes or to heat water for district heating.
DEDistrict Energy systems provide thermal energy (heating and cooling) to communities through district energy pipes from a central plant. District energy can provide substantial energy efficiency gains, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and savings in building capital and operating costs.

It offers stable prices under long-term contracts for energy generated from renewable sources, including biomass, biogas, landfill gas, on-shore wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), waterpower. The FIT Program was enabled by the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 which was passed into law on May 14, 2009. The Ontario Power Authority is responsible for implementing the program.

MWMegawatt is a unit for measuring power that is equivalent to one million watts (equivalent to one joule per second).
MW.h or MWhMegawatt-hour is the amount of power used if 1,000,000 watts are used for 1 hour, or 1 watt is used for 1,000,000 hours. If 100 light bulbs each using 1,000 watts of power are turned on for 10 hours, they will use 100 x 1,000 x 10 watt hours = 1,000,000 watt hours = 1 megawatt hour. Most electric companies charge for the number of kilowatt hours used. A megawatt hour is 1,000 kilowatt hours.
