With Time-of-Use prices, the price of electricity depends on when you use it.
There are three different Time-of-Use prices. These prices are set by the Ontario Energy Board and are reviewed every May 1 and November 1.
Time-of-Use rates effective November 1, 2016 are as follows:
Time-of-use prices reflect the fact that the cost to provide electricity changes throughout the day. When demand is low, less expensive sources of electricity are used. When demand rises, more expensive forms of electricity production are called upon, making prices higher.
In summer, from May 1 to October 31, on-peak prices apply from 11 AM to 5 PM, reflecting the demand for power for air conditioning.
In winter, from November 1 to April 30, on-peak prices apply in the morning from 7 AM to 11 AM and evening from 5 PM to 7 PM, when electricity use increases for heating and lighting.
During weekends and statutory holidays, all hours of the day are off-peak.
Consult the Time-of-Use Holiday Schedule to learn which holidays are off-peak
