Pay online through your bank or other financial institution

Please allow three to five business days for your payment to be processed.

Pay by telephone 
Pay using your financial institution's telephone banking service. Please allow three to five business days for your payment to be processed. 
Pay by mail

Mail your cheque or money order and payment stub to:

Pay by credit card

Credit card payments up to $5,000 may be made any time, day or night, by Mastercard, American Express, or VISA using Paymentus. Guelph Hydro will receive notification of your payment within minutes. You will continue to receive your statement by mail or register for ebilling.

Service Charges and Fees

A Paymentus Service Charge of 1.75% of the total amount paid will be charged to the card holder by Paymentus. Guelph Hydro / Alectra Utilities does not receive any portion of this fee.

Important: The bank or other institution that issued your credit card may treat this transaction as a cash payment. They may charge you a cash advance fee on top of the Paymentus Service Charge. If this happens, you are responsible for all cash advance fees that are charged.

 

Frequently Asked Questions About Paying by Credit Card

How do I pay using Paymentus?

You will need:

  1. Your 18-digit Guelph Hydro account number. Enter the number with all leading zeros but no dash or spaces. For example: 000123456000123456
  2. Your account balance. Note that the maximum payment allowed is $5,000.
  3. Your credit card information. Note that personal information collected is stored by Paymentus, not Guelph Hydro / Alectra Utilities.
  4. Call toll-free 1-877-273-2184 or pay online at Paymentus. Note: Although we merged with Alectra Utilities on January 1, 2019, payments should still be made to "Guelph Hydro."
  5. The Paymentus Service Charge of 1.75% on any amount paid will be charged to your credit card. Guelph Hydro / Alectra Utilities does not receive any portion of this fee. The company that issued your credit card may treat this transaction as a cash payment and charge you a cash advance fee on top of the Paymentus Service Charge.
What credit cards can I use?
Paymentus accepts payments by Visa, American Express, and Mastercard.
Can I use a pre-paid credit card?

Yes, you can use a pre-paid credit card (Visa, American Express, or Mastercard). You will need to ensure that the bill amount you are paying plus the convenience fee charged by Paymentus (1.75% of the total amount paid) is not more than the total amount of the pre-paid card.

What information will I need to pay by credit card?

You will need your account number and balance owed from your bill or past due notice. You will also need to have your credit card information handy. 

Note: Although we merged with Alectra Utilities on January 1, 2019, payments should still be made to "Guelph Hydro."

When will Guelph Hydro / Alectra Utilities receive my credit card payment?
All Paymentus payments made before 12:00 midnight will be processed the next business day. 
 How will my payment be confirmed?

For each payment you make, you will receive a payment confirmation number. You can also call one of our Customer Service Representatives at 519-822-3010 to confirm your payment was received.

Can I set up recurring, monthly payments?

At this time, recurring, monthly payments cannot be scheduled through Paymentus.

How will this payment appear on my credit card statement?

Your credit card statement will show the amount as a payment to Guelph Hydro. You will also see a separate line that shows the service charge paid to Paymentus.
